The 3D Combat Engineer Battalion traces its roots back to 1942, when it was first formed during World War II. From the Pacific campaigns of Bougainville, Guam, and Iwo Jima, the battalion’s Marines and sailors performed vital and dangerous tasks, clearing obstacles under fire, constructing fortifications, and enabling fellow troops to advance against a determined enemy.
After World War II, the battalion was deactivated, only to be repeatedly reactivated over the decades to answer the nation’s call, from Vietnam to the Persian Gulf, always serving with courage, skill, and an unbreakable spirit.
Following another period of dormancy, the battalion was re-established in 2008. Since then, it has faced profound challenges, including the loss of 6 brothers in arms killed in action and 22 veterans wounded in the battle at home. Yet through these hardships, the battalion’s members have kept in touch, maintaining the bonds of brotherhood over nearly 18 years.
To support their healing and connection, The 3D CEB Foundation was created. The Foundation funds retreats, reunions, and family connection opportunities that help veterans share stories, rebuild trust, and reignite the camaraderie that sustained them in combat. The ultimate hope is to one day extend this same support to every veteran, helping them heal, reconnect, and thrive.
